Professionalism, Customer Service and Cultural Differences - What You Need To Know To Survive In The Home Inspection Business
Davannis Restaurant - private dining room 41 Cleveland Ave So St. Paul, MN 55105 651-690-4848 (SW corner of Cleveland and Grand)
Annual Meeting: During the annual meeting portion, the chapter president will take a few minutes to talk a little about the past and what we're planning for the near future. Please anticipate an election of new Board of Director members at this meeting. You will need to be a paid Heartland Chapter member to vote on chapter matters.
Program: Professionalism means different things to different people. We'll examine a few areas as they relate to the inspection business and you can decide for yourself what you think is important. For instance:
- Do you answer your phone or does it go to voice mail?
- What do you do when the potential client on the phone says, "the other inspector is $50 cheaper than you."
- Do you spell check?
- Do you review, reread and revise your report before sending?
- Should I take off my shoes before entering?
- Do you write email the same as text?
- Do's and Don'ts of handling a complaint.
Do you provide exemplary customer service? We'll examine a few areas including:
- Lock boxes and electronic keys
- Marketing and advertising
- Social media - LinkedIn, Facebook, Blogs, etc
- Notices to homeowner
- Thank you notes
The Twin Cities is home to many cultures. As inspectors, we often don't know much about our clients until we are face to face, so it's important to have a basic understanding of our cultural differences. Topics will include:
- Language barriers.
- Does religion matter?
- Are tattoo's scary?
- Did you know Minneapolis is home to more Hmong, Tibetan and Somali families than anywhere else in North America?
- Did you know about 15% of the Mpls population is GLBT?
- What is GLBT?
- What should I do before entering a Japanese household?
- Is it OK to discuss inspection findings with the Realtor of an Asian client?
- Is it normal for a client to not look you in the eye?
We'll examine these questions and more as time allows.
